KIDS MARINE ZONE

Back again in 2010 is the popular Kids Marine Zone.  Suitable for kids aged 5 to 16 there are heaps of FREE activities on offer! It is the perfect opportunity for mum and dad to drop the kids off and enjoy the rest of the show!

Climb the Rock Wall, try your like luck on the Fishing Simulator, learn how to tie a hook, throw a net like the pros or cast in a straight line.

The FREE sessions hosted by 2 Bent Rods are a great hands on way for kids to learn the basics of fishing.

Sessions commence from 10:30am and will be run on a rotational basis with groups starting every 10-15 minutes - this means that everyone gets a go.

It takes 1 1/2 - 2 hours to complete all stations of the clinic.

To join a session, simply head over to the kids fishing clinic (full map details will be provided shortly) and register.  Children will then wait in a designated area until it's their groups turn to start.  When it's all over, parents are able to collect their children from the specially designated 'pick-up' zone.

Session Details:

  • Casting Rods - Using egg beater reels, kids will learn a few trick casts and then get their chance to 'catch' some target balloons with casting plugs.  Everyone that pops a balloon will win a prize.
  • Yabbie Tank & Noxious Fish- Choose your bait (peas, melon, soap etc) and try your hand at catching a 15cm long yabby.  Keep your eyes peeled for the red claw variety!  Noxious Fish (pest fish) will be discussed while you fish.
  • Cast Netting - Kids will learn to throw a cast net which has been colour coded to help make sure they pick it up the right way.  After a few goes, kids will be as good (if not better) than dad!  Everyone who 'catches' the special target (water filled balloons) will win a prize.
  • Healthy Waterways Model - Learn about the impact we all have on the environment and the things we can do to make our waterways cleaner and safer.  Everyone will recieve a Healthy Waterways prize.
  • Lure, Float or Fridge Magnet Making - Unleash your creative side by desiging your own lure, float or fridge magnet!
  • Saltwater Tank - Find out what the difference is between a male and female mud crab and how to tell if you've caught a whiting or a bream.  There will also be a range of live baits including yabbies, prawns and poddie mullet on display.
  • No Touch Tank - Be careful!  There are bull routs and sting rays on display at this station.  Learn what to do if you are every caught by a marine stinger.

No one leaves empty handed with all participants receiving a sample bag with magazines, fishing information and the prizes they've collected along the way!

Mum and dad won’t miss out either!  Make sure you check the vouchers table when you drop the kids off and go get yourself a show bargain while the kids are keeping busy!
